MUFG Bank international transfers

MUFG’s online versus branch remittance channels, its published fees and correspondent options, ISO 20022 changes, and its English Web Support Plus service.

Direct answers

MUFG offers online remittance via MUFG Direct to registered beneficiaries and branch/Web Support Plus service; online fees run ¥2,500–¥3,000, branch service is ¥7,000, and MUFG Direct supports recipient-paid fees only.

Key points

  • MUFG Direct online supports personal transfers to registered beneficiaries; branch or Foreign Remittance Web Support Plus is also available.
  • Online: ¥2,500 to specified MUFG overseas branches/entities, ¥3,000 to other banks; branch/Web Support Plus ¥7,000 (handwritten +¥500).
  • Yen or same-currency foreign-deposit funding can incur 0.05% (minimum ¥2,500); a sender-paid correspondent option at a branch adds ¥3,000.
  • MUFG Direct supports recipient-paid fees only; branch execution may take about three business days.

Channels and fees

MUFG offers online remittance through MUFG Direct to registered beneficiaries, plus branch service and an English-capable Foreign Remittance Web Support Plus. Online fees are ¥2,500 to specified MUFG overseas branches or entities and ¥3,000 to other banks. Branch or Web Support Plus service is ¥7,000, and a handwritten request adds ¥500.

Funding from a yen or same-currency foreign-currency deposit can incur a 0.05% handling charge with a ¥2,500 minimum. A sender-paid correspondent option is available at a branch for an extra ¥3,000, but MUFG Direct supports recipient-paid fees only — so if you need to pay downstream charges yourself, you may need the branch route.

Access, English, and change notes

English Web Support Plus is available, but compliance follow-up and source documents may still be required. Incoming fees depend on the currency and conversion route; check the current schedule at receipt time, especially because MUFG announced 2026 revisions. MUFG is also migrating international messages to ISO 20022 formats, which can affect beneficiary data requirements.

Branch execution may take about three business days, so start time-critical transfers early and register the beneficiary in advance.

Who this is for

  • Existing MUFG customers sending to registered beneficiaries
  • People needing a major-bank wire with English support

What this is not

  • Small transfers where fixed fees dominate
  • Sender-paid downstream fees online (use a branch)
Important cautions
  • Incoming and outgoing schedules are being revised in 2026 — reverify the current fee page before you rely on a figure.
