A licensed money-transfer service that uses the mid-market exchange rate with a transparent, upfront fee — often cheaper than bank wires for personal transfers.
Bank deposit versus cash pickup, supported corridors, limits, fees, speed, and receiving capability — so family remitters can pick the right one for their destination.
Wise is better for transparent bank-deposit transfers, receiving foreign income, and broad currency coverage; SBI Remit is better for cash pickup, MoneyGram reach, and Asian family-remittance corridors — compare the exact recipient amount for your destination and payout method.
Wise is a transparent transfer and multi-currency tool: mid-market rate, a visible fee, local receiving details, and Type I large transfers up to ¥150 million for qualifying cases. It is not a cash-pickup network. SBI Remit is a remittance specialist with bank deposit, cash pickup, and MoneyGram reach across roughly 200 countries/territories, generally capped near the lower of a US$10,000 equivalent and ¥1 million per transfer and about ¥5 million per calendar year.
So the choice is largely about payout method: if the recipient has a bank account and you value transparency and larger limits, Wise usually fits; if the recipient needs cash pickup or you are sending regular family support on an Asian corridor, SBI Remit is often the stronger and cheaper option.
Compare the exact recipient amount for your destination and payout method at the same time — a bank-deposit quote from Wise against a bank-deposit or cash-pickup quote from SBI Remit. Include SBI Remit’s FX margin (not just its from-¥460 fee) and check the corridor’s cash-pickup cap and agent details if you choose cash.
For receiving a foreign salary or holding multiple currencies, Wise is the better tool; for one-way family cash to Asia, SBI Remit frequently wins. Many people keep both for different jobs.
