The commuter stack
For a JR East commuter, the core setup is to register Mobile Suica with a JRE POINT account and charge it with a View card. Eligible Mobile Suica JR East rides earn two percent JRE POINT (one point per ¥50), and View charging earns 1.5%, creating a nominal 3.5% stack on the same eligible travel funding cycle. Register the Suica before travelling, because unregistered rides and cash do not earn ride points. Be aware that not every Suica transaction is a qualifying JR East ride — nonqualifying rail operators, unregistered Suica, and some pass products follow different rates.
Station shopping and other regions
Present your JRE POINT card or app at station stores (kiosks, station buildings, shopping malls) to add merchant points on top of payment rewards; JRE Card and eligible View products can earn more at designated station-building stores, though merchant designation and the September 1, 2026 changes must be checked. For other regions the logic is the same but the program differs: JR West uses WESTER, ICOCA, and a J-WEST relationship; JR Kyushu uses JR Kyupo; private railways use their own cards with PASMO/manaca/PiTaPa. Route and regional railway matter more than national rankings, so evaluate by your actual commute.
