NISA Starter Planner

A readiness check and multi-horizon projection for the new NISA — plus the documents and questions to bring to a brokerage. Educational, not investment advice.

Readiness check

  • Emergency fund in place before investing
  • No high-interest debt (clear it first)
  • A multi-year time horizon in Japan

If markets return this much, over time

Documents you will usually need
  • Residence card (在留カード) and My Number
  • A Japanese bank account for funding
  • Proof of address
  • The brokerage's NISA application (often online)
Questions to ask the brokerage
  • Which funds are eligible for the tsumitate frame?
  • What are the fund fees (信託報酬)?
  • What happens to my NISA if I leave Japan?
  • Is the app/support available in English?

Educational tool. Projections are hypothetical, not advice. We do not recommend a specific fund. Confirm current NISA rules with the FSA and your brokerage.
