WAON POINT (AEON) program guide

How WAON POINT rewards AEON-group grocery shopping, and how it differs from WAON e-money.

Direct answers

WAON POINT is AEON’s loyalty currency, earned at AEON-group stores and usable at ≈¥1, with a maximum life of roughly two years; it is distinct from WAON stored-value e-money.

Key points

  • Operator: AEON Group; AEON apps, WAON POINT card, and eligible AEON/WAON cards.
  • Earned especially at AEON-group stores; generally usable at about ¥1 per point.
  • AEON Card and special member days can raise earning on group stores.
  • Maximum life of roughly two years under the earning-cycle structure.
  • WAON POINT (loyalty) is different from WAON electronic money (stored value).

Earning at AEON-group stores

WAON POINT is the AEON Group’s loyalty currency. You obtain it through the AEON/iAEON apps, a WAON POINT card, or eligible WAON/AEON cards, and earn merchant-specific points especially at AEON-group stores such as AEON, MaxValu, and other group supermarkets. Paying with an AEON Card, and shopping on special member days, can raise the effective earn on group stores. Because grocery shopping is high-frequency, these store-specific days and coupons can matter more than a small difference between general-purpose cards.

Use, expiry, and the e-money distinction

WAON POINT redeems at ≈¥1 toward purchases at AEON-group and affiliated shops and can be exchanged into other value under current rules, including topping up WAON electronic money. The earning-cycle structure means points earned in a period expire at the end of a later fiscal-style cycle, producing a maximum life of roughly two years. Keep the two “WAON” concepts separate: WAON POINT is a loyalty currency, while WAON electronic money is a prepaid stored-value rail — older materials sometimes blur them. AEON Card applications are generally limited to residents.

Who this is for

  • AEON shoppers and grocery-focused families

What this is not

  • People who rarely shop at AEON-group stores
Important cautions
  • Do not confuse WAON POINT with WAON electronic money — they follow different rules.

Frequently asked questions

WAON or nanaco — what is the difference?

WAON POINT is AEON’s loyalty currency (earned at AEON-group stores, ~two-year maximum life), while nanaco is Seven & i’s system (earned at Seven-Eleven and Ito-Yokado, points convert to nanaco e-money). Both distinguish the loyalty point from the stored-value electronic money of the same name, and both are largely closed-loop.

What is the best rewards setup for supermarkets?

Use WAON POINT at AEON-group stores; otherwise use the supermarket’s own program (nanaco at Ito-Yokado, LaCuCa at Life, TOKYU POINT at Tokyu Store). A store’s high-frequency member days and coupons often outweigh a small difference between general cards, so join the program of the store you actually visit weekly.
